Hi! It's the evening of a Monday.

I've been working all weekend on trying to set up a VPN connection with WireGuard to be able to access my Proxmox web interface while I'm not on my home WiFi network. It was all to no avail, because I got informed by a friend who is better at networking than I am that our ISP (Metronet) gives us CG NAT addresses, or semi-public IPs, which will not work as they can't be accessed from the wider Internet.

My planned solution, though I'm not happy with it, is to call Metronet and request a public IP address. For posterity, and whoever might try to replicate my methods:

  • Server config
  • Client config
  • Port forwarding setup
